A frayed lift cable is one of the more dangerous garage door problems homeowners ignore — under spring tension, a snapped cable can cause the door to drop suddenly.
5 Star Garage Door Service trains Des Plaines, IL technicians on this exact service line so you're not the one teaching them on the job.
We'd rather send one truck that's actually equipped for garage door cable repair than three that aren't, even if it means a slightly longer wait on a rare occasion.
Uneven cable wear on one side often points to a misaligned track we'll also flag.
We use cables rated to your door's actual weight and spring tension.
Every job includes a post-repair tension and balance check.
Catching fraying before it snaps is far safer than an emergency call after.
Even a few loose strands mean a cable is close to failing under load — we replace it before that happens.
A cable that's already snapped usually means the door dropped or hangs crooked — emergency replacement is stocked specifically because this can't wait.
A cable that's slipped off its drum causes uneven hanging — alignment gets checked against the opposite side for balance.
Extension spring systems should run safety cables to prevent whip-back — it's a quick, affordable safety upgrade.
The bracket anchoring the cable to the door corrodes over time — rust and corrosion at the anchor get addressed before they cause sudden release.
Dial +1-866-597-3069; a real person collects the details before routing a technician.
Most calls see a technician on-site within the hour, dispatch load permitting.
We diagnose the actual cause and explain the fix in plain terms before quoting.

"""Second cable was close to going too. Glad they checked both instead of just the one that snapped."""
"""Noticed a few frayed strands and called before it got worse. Tech said it was close to snapping."""
"""Cable snapped and the door dropped crooked. They stabilized it fast and had it fixed same day."""
"""Didn't know safety cables were even a thing until they pointed out mine were missing."""
"""Quick, professional, explained exactly what was worn and why."""
If only one shows wear, we'll say so rather than upsell the second.
If you notice either, call +1-866-597-3069 before the cable fails completely.
Don't attempt to operate the door manually until it's inspected.
We don't recommend it — cables work under spring tension requiring proper tools.
They run through extension springs to contain them if the spring fails.
Visible fraying at any point means replacement, regardless of age.
